Martha Katherine Kaster (AKA
Caster) was born in May 1873 in Iowa
(1900 US Census for Grand Prairie Township,
Nobles, County, MN). First name was Martha
(death certificate of Charley Mannigal) but went by
the name of Catherine or Kate. Both parents from Germany. In an e-mail from Robert Yates, there is
mention that that as far as he and his wife (Shirley Mannigal
Yates) could find out, Katherine was born in Iowa
at Fort Atkinson. Ft.
Atkinson is in Military
Township, Windshake

Man Called to his Eternal Reward
Fred John Mannigal passed away at
his home here, Wednesday morning, May 20th, at 11:05 a.m., after suffering from a lingering
illness. He was 69 years of age at the
time of his death.
Fred John Mannigal was born in Berlin,
Germany, January 7, 1856. He was united in marriage to Miss Katherine
Caster, October 30, 1892. The departed was a devoted member of the St.
Matthews Lutheran church, and has been a member since 1915. Mr. Mannigal was
employed by the city for a number of years as a street cleaner.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 23rd at 2:30 from the St. Matthews church. Rev. Julius Deckman having charge. Favorite hymns were sung by the musicians of
the church. The pallbearers were: C. Kuhl, H. Mohr,
P. Reinken, S. Vogt, L. Zinnel
and S. Bultman.
Burial was made in the Worthington
cemetery.
Mr. Manigal is survived by his
widow and six children, Mrs. Mary Henning of Champaign, Ill., William, Sophia,
John, Charles and Eldia [sp], all of this city.

MN, living with Fredrick and his wife Kate and their children is Claus
Caster, listed as “brother (though that would not be the brother of the head of
household but rather the brother of the wife of the head of household,
Kate.). He gives his year of arrival as
1882.
